This week students will continue to write biographies as part of the Letters of Inspiration unit. Students will be given two more classes to work on the biographies. They should have the draft finished by Mon. Feb. 1st and the Flipgrid video recorded by Mon. Feb 8th. This will end the first half of the unit.
Next week we will begin a unit in celebration of African Heritage Month. Students will experience spoken word poems written by Shauntay Grant and write a few poems of their own.

Hello Grade 7 Parents and Guardians,
It has been a great start to the new year. I have graded and returned students’ Mythical Creature essays. The grades have been posted to Power School and returned via Google Classroom. On Tuesday, students started a new unit titled, Letters of Inspiration. Students will learn about an inspirational Nova Scotian, write a short biography about that person, and write a letter of inspiration to that person. Have a great day, Hugh Hello All,
This will be the last English update until after the break. I wish all of you the best over the holiday season. Most students have finished publishing their Mythical Creature essays. Those who haven’t, should have it turned in to Google Classroom by Friday, Dec. 18th. Over the next two classes, students will complete a small writing activity titled, “Moz the Monster.” Talk to you in the new year, Hugh Hello Grade 7 Families,

Students will have class one more class, Nov. 26th (small date change), to work on the project. All other work should be completed at home. All the best, Hugh It is hard to believe, but we are almost done the first term of the school year. I am enjoying my first year at Harold T Barrett. The kindness of students, staff, and parents has made me feel part of the HTB community.
Mythical Creatures — Students have conducted their research and have started to draft their Mythical Creature essays. We will take the essay through the writing process to make sure it is well written and ready to publish. There is no due date set for this activity. I’ll let you know when it is due when we are a little further along. Book Promotion — The book promotion is due on Dec. 1st. Students will have class time on Nov. 13th, 18th, and 27th to work on the project. All other work should be completed at home. Students did a superb job creating and presenting their artwork representations of “Tiam’s Promise.” I can honestly say, this is some of the best work I’ve ever seen.
We will now move into a writing unit titled, Mythical Creatures. Students will learn how to prepare for research, will conduct research, and will use the information they find to write an essay. Students have also begun working on a Book Promotion based on their independent reading. The final product is due on Dec. 1st. Students will have time to work on this in class, but may need to work on some of it at home. We have finished the "Answering Questions" unit. All grades have been posted to PowerSchool.
